Company Background and Culture

The Aubrey Group is a grants-based development consulting firm with offices in Elizabeth and Camden, New Jersey. Our team members are expert storytellers, precise writers, and big-picture thinkers. Our grants-based development department offers public policy research, grant writing and grant program development services to public entities, nonprofits, and private businesses. Formed in 2015, The Aubrey Group is quickly expanding with a reputation for high caliber consulting services grounded in the values of kindness, curiosity, and diligence.

At the Aubrey Group, our team creates content for and facilitates the submission of competitive funding proposals, licensure processes, and tax credit applications. Our clients are working on the front lines of urban development and rural preservation. The problems that they face are interesting and important, and our consultants are passionate about helping them design and fund innovative solutions.

We understand our work on individual projects in connection to the big picture – who we are as a country and a community, what we owe to each other, and how we can work together to accomplish our shared goals. We see our time spent on work as an important piece of our overall fulfillment, and we strive to build a workplace that enriches, challenges, and supports every member of our team. We do our best to balance having high aspirations and expectations of each other with the humility and grace that allows us to understand that we are not perfect. We have an understanding amongst our team that no one “gets in trouble” for making a mistake: only for concealing one, or refusing to take responsibility. We see it as our shared responsibility to learn from and help each other.

Our firm believes that building diversity into the foundation of how we do business creates a more fulfilling workplace and allows us to better serve our clients. We take responsibility for developing a workplace that is attractive to, and supportive of, individuals from diverse backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to, people of color, people who have experiences with disability, LGBTQ folks, people with experiences with immigration, those who honor diverse religious traditions, and individuals from poor and working class backgrounds. We also value diversity of professional, educational, and technical backgrounds. If you see a potential fit for yourself on our team, but this specific position description isn't the best fit for you, we’d like to hear from you.

Plainfield Awarded NEA Grant for Public Art Projects

PLAINFIELD, NJ – The City of Plainfield received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the Plainfield Performing Arts Center (P-PAC) artist residency program.

The Plainfield Performing Arts Center was created in 2017 after the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield gifted their historic stone church to the City. P-PAC hosts visiting artists and theatre productions, as well as educational and arts programming for youth.

This award will support three of the City’s residency programs and enable artists and art organizations to take advantage of performance space, stipends, promotion and marketing, and facilitate audience development.

  • The Theater Artist in Residency Program is a 1-year program that will assist Plainfield in supporting emerging theater artists and organizations by providing low-cost performance and exhibition facilities.

  • The Visiting Artist Residency Program provides short-term and low-cost resources to artists of multiple disciplines to produce, exhibit or develop new works at P-PAC. Plainfield seeks residents that can add diverse perspectives, conduct educational programs, and expand upon the cultural landscape of Plainfield.

  • The Plainfield Summer Visual Artist Collaborative Residency provides three Visual Artists with a month-long studio opportunity to work on a collaborative project with two other artists and interact with the public, young mural artists, and the artist community.

These funds will empower the City to continue serving as an incubator for the growth and career development of artists, facilitate cultural and economic interaction between artists and residents, and provide engaging and educational art opportunities at P-PAC.

This program was designed by Health and Human Resources Director, Shep Brown and Program Development Specialist, Sharon McGuire. The NEA Grants for Arts Projects program will be administered by the Community Development Division (CDD) of the Department of Health and Social Services.

Plainfield Performing Arts Center is looking forward to resuming programming after the COVID-19 forced cancellations and closures throughout 2020.
